Locked out, lost keys or a lock that will not turn: how we deal with each

Door slammed shut, keys inside. The most common call on the coast: you step out to the bins or the pool, the draught slams the front door and the latch catches. If the key was not turned, we open it with a shim or picks in a few minutes without touching the cylinder. Lost or stolen keys. We open the door and in the same visit replace the bombín (lock cylinder) so the old keys stop working. Labour is €40-60 and a cylinder starts at €20, or €35 for an anti-bump model with a security card (Tesa, Ezcurra, Mottura). If the keys went missing with anything showing your address, change the cylinder the same day.

Cylinder jammed or key snapped off. Salt air gets inside the cylinder in seafront flats and the pins stop moving. We try graphite lubricant and controlled extraction first; if a pin spring has gone, the cylinder is replaced. Lock change between tenants or after a break-in. A full lock replacement (mortice or rim) is €80-150 plus the lock. For holiday lets we also fit Nuki, Yale or Tedee smart locks so you stop posting keys to guests.

Locksmith near me at night or on a Sunday: what it costs

Between 8am and 9pm, Sundays included, there is no surcharge: a slammed door is €60-90. Outside those hours the opening costs €90-150. A reinforced or armoured door is €90-180 at any hour. The price you accept on WhatsApp is the one on the invoice, and every range is on the locksmith prices page.

How we work: ID check, no drilling, fixed price

Three rules that separate a serious locksmith from the "from €29" adverts that end in a €300 bill.

• We check who you are before we open. A document with the address (ID, residence card, tenancy agreement, utility bill or the escritura on your phone), or a call with the owner. For holiday lets, the booking confirmation. No document, no opening; we would rather lose the job than open the wrong door.
• We never drill an armoured door. A drilled security door is an expensive door with a hole in it. On reinforced and armoured doors we work on the cylinder: pick it if the model allows, or break and replace it for €20-70. If a door cannot be opened without destructive work, we tell you before starting, not after.
• Fixed price on WhatsApp. Send a photo of the lock from the street side and say whether the door slammed or was locked. We reply with a firm price and an arrival time. Accept it and there is no call-out fee; if we come to look and you decide against it, the trip is €25 in Valencia or Alicante city and €35 elsewhere. Payment on completion by cash, card, Bizum or transfer, invoice with IVA (VAT), 6-month written guarantee on labour.

When a quick opening turns into a longer job

A door double-locked from outside has no latch to shim: the work is on the cylinder, picking a basic one (no damage) or breaking and replacing a security one. A key left in the lock inside blocks a standard cylinder from outside; we use a push technique or replace the cylinder if it is worn. Both take longer and we price them from the photo.

The other Costa Blanca classic: the owner flies in on a Friday night to a bungalow in La Zenia and the key the agent left does not work because the previous tenant changed the cylinder. We open, fit a new cylinder and hand you the new keys sealed; we can also hold a set through our key holding service.
