Why people search for an English speaking plumber in Spain
It is rarely about the plumbing. It is about the phone call: explaining that the cisterna pierde agua or the latiguillo has burst, knowing whether the figure quoted is with or without IVA, and understanding what the plumber meant by the problem being the bajante. We speak English, Spanish and Russian, write the quote in English and issue the invoice in Spanish so it is valid here.
The second thing is a plumber who does not disappear. The usual complaint is the fontanero who says "mañana" three days running. We give you an arrival time on WhatsApp and keep it, and if a part has to be ordered we tell you the date rather than going quiet.
The third is the price. Plenty of English speakers have overpaid for a tap washer because they could not argue in Spanish. Our prices are the same for everyone, published on the plumber prices page, and fixed in writing before we start. If the job turns out different when we open the cupboard, we re-quote before touching anything.
What our English speaking plumbers fix most on the Costa Blanca
Four jobs make up most of our week, all caused by hard water and homes left empty for months.
- Taps that drip or seize. Hard water plus a single-lever tap unused from October to Easter means a squeal and a drip on the first turn. New cartridge or washers €40-70; a full tap swap, labour only, €45-80. To try yourself, see how to fix a dripping tap.
- Cisterns that keep running or will not fill. Scaled-up float, hardened flush seal, Roca or Geberit mechanism that has given up. New mechanism, usually included in the €60-110; the most common repair in Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa after the winter.
- Flexi hoses, stopcocks and visible leaks. Braided hoses under the sink and behind the toilet corrode in the salty air and burst without warning. We fit stainless steel hoses and quarter-turn valves so you can shut off in seconds next time. A washing machine or dishwasher connection is €45-70.

How it works: WhatsApp in English, price in writing, invoice with IVA
- 1. Send a photo. A picture of the tap, cistern or leak on WhatsApp, in English, with the town and the type of home. We reply in English.
- 2. Fixed price. A firm figure in writing, IVA included, and an arrival time. Accept it and there is no call-out fee; if we come to look and you decide against it, the trip is €25 in Valencia or Alicante city and €35 elsewhere.
- 3. Repair and paperwork. We arrive with Roca and universal mechanisms, cartridges, hoses and valves, so most jobs are finished in one visit. Pay on completion by cash, card, Bizum or bank transfer from any country. The invoice carries our tax number, IVA broken out and a description in Spanish, which is what your insurer, your gestor and your comunidad de vecinos (residents' association) need. 6-month written guarantee on labour.
Dealing with the comunidad, the administrador and your insurance in Spanish
A good part of plumbing in Spanish flats is diplomacy. If the leak comes from the communal downpipe or the riser, the comunidad pays, not you, but somebody has to explain that to the administrador in Spanish with photos and the right words. We make that call. If the leak is from the flat above and the owner lives in Manchester, we write the message they can forward to their own plumber or insurer.
Home insurance in Spain (seguro de hogar) usually covers water damage and often sends its own plumber first. We tell you honestly when it is worth waiting for them; when we do the repair, our invoice and photo report are what the claims adjuster (perito) asks for.
What we do not do, because Spanish law requires a licensed installer: gas, gas water heaters, boilers, heating and the water certificate (boletín) for a new supply. We refer those to our partner. An electric water heater leaking at the hose or the safety valve we repair; one that does not heat is an electrician's job. If a pipe inside a tiled wall has to be opened, we quote the plumbing and the small building works separately so you see both first.

Frequently asked questions
Does the plumber who turns up actually speak English?
Yes. Every quote and WhatsApp conversation is in English, and the plumber who comes explains what he found and what he did. If you prefer, we leave a short written summary in English with the invoice so you can forward it to a landlord, an insurer or a family member.
Is IVA included in the price you quote?
Yes. The figure you accept on WhatsApp includes IVA (VAT) at 21% and that is what appears on the invoice, nothing added. Some tradesmen quote without IVA and add it at the end; we never do. If you need the invoice in the name of a company or a landlord, tell us before we issue it.
Can I pay from a UK or Dutch bank account?
Yes. We accept bank transfer to a Spanish IBAN from any country, as well as cash, card and Bizum on the day. Customers who are not in Spain when the work is done usually pay by transfer after receiving the photos and the invoice.
I am not in Spain. Can you do the repair with the key from my agent?
Yes, a regular arrangement. You tell us which agent, neighbour or community office holds the key; we sign for it, do the repair, send photos and the invoice, and return the key. For a permanent arrangement, see our key holding service.
How quickly can you come, and is there a surcharge at weekends?
20-45 minutes in Torrevieja, Alicante, Benidorm and Valencia, 30-60 minutes in Calpe, Jávea and Dénia, from 8am to 9pm seven days a week with no weekend surcharge. Only a night or bank holiday call-out carries a surcharge, €90-160, and we tell you before setting off.
